Upgrading
Biogas is a valuable and renewable energy source produced from organic materials such as food waste, animal waste, and wastewater treatment. Bacteria break down this organic matter through anaerobic digestion.
The biogas can then be upgraded for use as fuel, referred to as renewable natural gas (RNG), in compressed natural gas vehicles and to generate renewable heat and electricity.
RNG production helps reduce the amount of methane emitted from waste streams in the agricultural, food, and chemical process industries. RNG is an important pathway for enabling a circular economy, which is a foundation of the clean energy transition to a fully renewable world.
